Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) Feb 2010

Developed by the National Apartment Association (NAA), the Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) course offers the highest standard of professional training for the on-site manager. CAM is a nine week course covering management, residential issues, finance, fair housing, marketing, human resources and much more. Our instructors share their years of industry expertise in the multi-family industry to enhance your career and community.

CAM runs for nine weeks Monday and Wednesday evenings 4:00 to 7:00pm.  Invididual modules can be taken for $99 each.  Below is a tentative module schedule.

  • February 22 – Orientation with Wendy Jenkins, Manager of Educational Services, AAMD.
    Join us for a welcome orientation and meet other CAM students and AAMD Education Staff. This is your opportunity to collect your class materials and become familiar with the facility and CAM program before classes begin.
  • February 24 – Community Analysis with Amy Fash, Lincoln Property Company
    A 3-hour review of the elements required to complete the comprehensive market and management analysis report, which is required to complete the CAM designation.
  • March 1 & 3 – Mgmt. of Residential Issues with Mary Wessler, ConAm
    This class will cover the information community managers need to be successful in the following areas: Customer service, occupancy management, security, emergency management and resident relations.
  • March 8 & 10  – Property Maintenance with Val Martinez, PG Construction
    Maintenance is so important in the day-to-day operations at every community. This class covers the topics that enable the community managers to be successful: Building a team approach, the onsite manager's role, exterior and interior maintenance, preventative maintenance and safety.
  • March 15 & 17 – Fair Housing with Debbie Wilson, Attorney, Springman, Braden, Wilson & Pontius, PC
    The community manager is responsible for ensuring that there are no fair housing violations and that their staff is in compliance. This class will cover the following topics in making the student more aware of what they need to know: Fair Housing laws, documentation, protected classes, accommodations, advertising and Fair Housing, Fair Housing complaints, management practices and government housing.
  • March 22 & 24 – Human Resources Management with Amy Fash, Lincoln Properties 
    This course educates the community manager on how to handle issues related to the following topics: Executive summary, employment law, employment practices, payroll administration, training, supervision and termination.
  • March 29 & 31 – Risk Management with Donna Lynch, IMA of Colorado
    This class is designed to help the community manager realize the importance of managing potential risks. This class will give important  information on the following topics: Minimizing risks to residents, minimizing risks to staff, handling emergencies, liability and insurance.
  • April 5 & 7 – Legal Responsibilities with Wes Wollenwebber, Attorney, Hopkins-Tschetter-Sulzer
    Having an understanding of the legal aspects of property management is vital in controlling liabilities at the on-site level. This class will cover these topics to better equip the community manager: Equal employment, OSHA and hazardous materials, lease and evictions, and vendor contracts.
  • April 12 & 14 – Marketing with Heather Campbell, RedPeak Properties
    One of the most important responsibilities that the onsite manager is given is marketing the community. This class will give the student innovative techniques & detailed information on marketing, conducting market research, promotional marketing, onsite marketing and the marketing plan.
  • April 19, 20 & 21 – Financial Management with Ken Greene, Apartment Realty Advisors
    Reviewing the budget is an everyday occurrence in the life of a community manager. This class will drill down deeper into the financial aspect of managing an asset and will give valuable insight on the following topics: Investments, adding value to the investments, mathematics review, financial statements, budgets and property valuation.
