AAMD Honored at the NAA's Excellence Awards for Apartments Giving Back
The Apartment Association of Metro Denver (AAMD) is honored to be acknowledged by the National Apartment Association (NAA) at the 2020 NAA Excellence Awards, or Excels, with the Affiliate Community Service award for its community efforts and work. The Excel’s aim to highlight excellence and leadership in the rental housing industry by celebrating communities, industry professionals and affiliated apartment associations who create one-of-a-kind contributions to the industry.
This award honors AAMD’s community milestones and outstanding achievements for its Apartments Giving Back Program, which launched in 2019 with plans to continue perpetually. NAA identifies and celebrates AAMD’s outstanding contributions through volunteerism and service. AAMD members participated in philanthropic efforts in 2019 through financial or volunteer donations that impacted over 60 organizations including American Red Cross, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
“This national recognition accentuates our ability to support and provide for our community,” said Mark Williams, executive vice president of the Apartment Association of Metro Denver. “This award goes beyond Apartments Giving Back and is about who we are as an association, our members and employees, and the positive impact we have on the greater community. We are honored and humbled to be recognized for our efforts. Congratulations to the other finalists and winners.”
Apartments Giving Back was created to showcase the philanthropic efforts of AAMD’s members including the community, owner and management members. AAMD members raised and donated nearly $100,000 in 2019 and spent hundreds of hours assisting the community.
Apartments Giving Back is not just about businesses giving back, but also individual members who personally support charities. Over 130 volunteers participated in two of AAMD’s annual charity events in 2019. AAMD continues the program into 2020, and the focus for fundraising this year has been on AAMD’s new partnership with the Resident Relief Fund due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AAMD and Colorado Apartment Association members have raised more than $160,000 for rent relief for Colorado residents.
